Digital Television Consumption
TV on demand
53% of internet users are watching TV on demand. Globally, this is a behavior on the rise up from 45% to 53% over the last year.
Video clips
By the end of 2013, 77% of internet users said they had done this in the last month – a figure which corresponds to more than 1.152 billion people (up from 711 million back in early 2011). PCs still remain the biggest device for this behavior in terms of overall audience size, but it’s significant that 626 million people are watching video clips via a mobile. It’s seen a 30% rise in numbers over the last year alone, reflecting the still growing importance of mobiles as a content consumption device.
Online TV
16-24s are watching the most online TV with 70% saying they typically watch at least some online television on a daily basis. Following closely behind are the 25-34s; more than a quarter of internet users in both age groups in fact say they they’re regularly watching more than an hour of online TV each day. The figures fall significantly in the 55-64 group – only a third are engaging with online content, and just 10% are watching more than an hour each day.
